Tips for Stress Management

>> Thursday, December 10, 2009

If you're feeling down or overwhelmed, your friends and family can help. Talk with them about what is bothering you. They may or may not have an immediate solution, but knowing that they are there to listen will lift a lot of the weight.

Get Exercise

Keeping your body healthy can alleviate symptoms of stress and depression, along with releasing endorphins. Also, going out for some exercise can be perfect for clearing your head and getting some "you time."

Eat Healthy:

By keeping your body nourished, you'll have enough energy to cope with life's stresses. However, be aware if you're eating just to deal with tension. Eat when you're hungry, not when you're stressed.

Laugh Often:

Aside from the emotional benefits, laughter can increase blood circulation, muscle stimulation and release chemicals that improve your immune system, relieve pain and ease stomachaches.

Keep a Stress Journal:

Write down what caused you stress throughout the week. At the end of the week look back on these events and approach the problems critically. What could you do to solve these problems? How would you approach them or react differently in the future?

Put Your Job Into Perspective:

If you're feeling burnt out at work or are having a hard time separating work from your personal life, it's time to assess your position. If you're feeling bored or under-appreciated in you career, talk to your supervisor about taking on more interesting, rewarding tasks and focus on what you like about your job. Learn to turn down projects when you don't have time and make a conscious effort to separate your professional from your personal life.
